Geneva Debut : Aston Martin DBS Volante and Vantage V12

First up is the convertible version of the DBS. The iconic Bond-mobile, whose name may have finally been determined, will make for a stunning drop-top. Not unlike arch-rival Ferrari, which took the 430 Scuderia and crossed it with the F430 Spider to create the 16M Scuderia Spider, Aston will take the fixed-roof DBS and put it in a room together with the DB9 Volante, dim the lights, put on some Boys2Men and let nature run its course.

Aston Martin doesn't have a huge product range. In fact, until the Rapide and One-77 come along, its line-up essentially boils down to two models: the Vantage and the DB9. And if reports coming straight from Switzerland are to be believed, the now-independent British sportscar company is descending on the Geneva Motor Show next month with new top-of-the-line variants of both.

Reportedly joining the DBS Volante/Roadster will be the production V12 Vantage RS. Forgot about that one? It's easy when Aston keeps serving up delectable new flagship supercars, so we'll scribble the recipe down for you again: take one V8 Vantage and the 600-hp V12 engine from the DBRS9 race car. Add louvers, spoilers, carbon fiber and alcantara. Shake (don't stir). Production should be very limited, and performance should be blistering. Stay tuned.

Toyota has revised the Aygo for the UK market

Aygo is a success story in miniature. Since launch in 2005 this small but perfectly formed Toyota has amassed more than 100,000 sales a year across Europe, its combination of low cost of ownership, contemporary styling and fun-to-drive character making it a top performer in the expanding A-segment.

Now the factors that have made Aygo a winner have been further sharpened to make it an even stronger proposition. The result is the new 2009 Aygo, on sale now.

The revised Aygo range includes two new feature models, Aygo Blue and Aygo Black, with exclusive equipment specifications, plus the established Aygo and Aygo+, in three and five-door body styles. All are powered by the Engine of the Year class-winning 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol unit, with five-speed manual or MultiMode transmission.

Hyundai Super Bowl Commercials Debut Early!

Being the experts on Super Bowl car commercials, we can do things like bring you the ads before they even air as part of our Super Bowl Ad Watch. Below we have the five advertisements Hyundai will show during and before the big game. Three of the ads will run during pre-show, also sponsored by Hyundai, and "Bosses" and "Contract" will run during the second and third quarters. Our perspective on these new advertisements below.

Title: Contract
Grade: C
Message: Hyundai has your back if you lose your job or income.
Our Take: For people who are freaked out about the economy the message may hit home, but it's just so boring.

Title: Commitment
Grade: C+
Message: If you're willing to commit to Hyundai, they're willing to commit to you.
Our Take: The 'commitment isn't scary' approach of this commercial for the Hyundai Assurance program works better than the "Contract" commercial because it implies we're all in the economic mess together. Still, it's rather boring.

Title: Columns
Grade: B
Message: The Hyundai Genesis won the 2009 North American Car Of The Year, something the automaker is obviously proud of as evidenced by the bragging.
Our Take: The commercial is good and, given Hyundai can afford multiple Super Bowl spots, there's nothing wrong with a little boastfullness. What really sells it, though, is the clip of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Grade: B+
Message: By winning the 2009 North American Car Of The Year award we've put BMW and Lexus on notice.
Our Take: Because everyone may not be cool with the idea of buying Korean while the American economy is hurting, Hyundai is smart enough to take aim at the Germans and the Japanese. The portrayals of the two "axis powers" is a bit over the top, but it makes the ad work.

Title: Epic Lap
Grade: A-
Message: You want the Genesis Coupe so badly you'll go to EditYourOwn.com and re-edit your own commercial, which isn't up yet.
Our Take: Yeooooowww! Much like the 2010 Hyundai Genesis reveal, this car is all about power slides and burnouts. What does Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins have to do with driving an epic lap? We have no idea. But we give the 1990s alternarock icon credit for mixing together a sweet commercial.

New Images and Video for Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro in Depth

It's been quite a journey for the R8 V10, from the various spy pictures to the infamous spy video where the test car accidentally caught fire at the Nurburgring right up until it was officially detailed in early December 2008. That journey ends when it becomes available in Germany from the second quarter of 2009 at a base price of €142,400 (US$183,000).

Click on the video to hear one of the most glorious sounds a petrol engine can make. This is the sound of the Audi R8 V10, the most powerful Audi sports car ever made. The engine is a 258kg 5.2-litre naturally aspirated mill that pushes out 525hp (386kW) and 530Nm of torque. It can rev up to 8,700rpm and achieves a specific power output of 100.9hp per litre . Audi says it will help the car burst from 0 - 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and go on until it reaches 316 km/h (196.35 mph). The Audi R8 V10 is said to return average fuel consumption figures of 13.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (17.17 US mpg).

The interior is fitted with fine Nappa leather seats, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and other optional extras that include a Bluetooth interface, front spoiler, a rear diffuser and side blades.

Two transmission options are available; a 6-speed manual transmission and an R tronic sequential gearbox that can be actuated via peddles or the gear lever. R tronic can also be set to change gears automatically. There is a launch control application for both transmissions. Quattro AWD sends power to all four 19-inch wheels (with a rear-wheel bias), which are planted to the ground via 235/35 front tyres and 295/30 rear tyres. Customers have the option of buying ceramic brakes to go with them.

New Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sportback 2009

New Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sportback 2009 :
Perhaps its my bias toward sports cars, but the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sportback is the first vehicle to hit the Paris auto show that genuinely excites me. A hatch-y spin on Mitsubishi’s best selling sport model, the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sportback is a celebration of the Lancer’s 35th anniversary. Easier on the wallet than the Evo yet far more badass than the Lancer Sports Sedan/Sports back, the Ralliart Sportback boasts a 2.0L MIVEC engine under the hood, producing a respectable 237-hp and 253 lb-ft of torque.

Scheduled for European release in the spring of 2009, no date has been given yet for the Ralliart Sportback’s jump across the pond, but I await its arrival with quivering anticipation [no sarcasm intended]

The New Ford 2009 Flex Concept

What do you see when you look at this vehicle? The 2009 Ford Flex? A 4/3-scale Mini Clubman? An overinflated Scion xB? A long wagon? A low minivan? Ford wants you to see a 1986 Taurus, a 1965 Mustang, or a 1956 T-Bird. A design icon. Whether or not you can squint that hard, the new Flex will never sell in numbers like some of those earlier icons, but its sleek, striking design and execution seem likely to propel it to more auspicious sales than the last "game-changing" low-roof three-row Grand Tourer to come down the pike -- Chrysler's Pacifica.
Part of that vehicle's problem was that its foundation was a high, flat minivan floorpan and firewall, which imposed some serious design constraints. Ford started with the Taurus/Taurus X foundation-footwells, center hump, and all-and moved the rear wheels five inches aft, with all proceeds going to benefit rear-seat legroom. The result is a roomier vehicle that's only slightly longer and lower than the Taurus X but looks considerably sleeker. That's because the designers have taken great pains to keep your eyes moving horizontally, not vertically, from the roof panel that "floats" above a blackout greenhouse to the horizontal strakes carved into the doors and rear hatch panel to the bold three-bar Ford grille. Even the keyless entry buttons are secreted in the blackout B-pillar (they illuminate when you place your hand near them). And note the utter absence of any trompe l'oeil SUV trappings-no cartoonish wheel flares, no ribbed or two-toned rockers to exaggerate ground clearance, and no vestigial brush bars formed into the bumpers. No, Flex's $1850 optional intelligent all-wheel-drive system promises nothing more adventurous than secure on-road traction in bad weather.
The linear design motifs are echoed inside, where former DKNY menswear designer Anthony Prozzi borrowed heavily from the couture biz. The horizontal graining on the dash and door-panel inserts looks like it might have been diverted from becoming a Louis Vuitton Epi Leather handbag or wallet. The seat inserts are similarly nontraditional, ranging from mini houndstooth-pattern cloth on the base car to leather perforated in a diamond pattern on top Limited models. Other innovative interior options include a true refrigerator/freezer ($760) that sits between the middle-row bucket seats and Sirius Travel Link. This $19.95/month satellite radio subscription upgrade brings real-time traffic info with rerouting to your nav system, along with national weather service info, sports scores, movie listings, and even fuel pricing info that can navigate you to the cheapest station (providing you pop for a Limited model with the $2375 navigation and reversing-camera option).

Getting in and out of this low-rise transporter is a breeze through the wide-opening doors, even in tight parking spaces. That's because the threshold is moved well inboard of where most cars put it, and the doors wrap under to seal at the very bottom of the rockers so no grime ever accumulates where it might fowl a pant leg. Access to the third-row seat is as easy as pressing a single button on the C-pillar that electrically folds and dumps the middle seat. Once back there, moderately sized adults can easily tolerate a cross-town commute, enjoying reasonable legroom and stadium-seat forward visibility that can be further improved with the headroom-expanding $1495 Vista Roof option that provides glass panels over the third row bench, each middle-row bucket, and an opening moonroof in front. Ironically, for me, the Flex's least comfortable seat was the left front, thanks to an aggressively raked (per federal mandate) passive head restraint that forced my noggin too far forward. The only alternative is an active headrest, which Ford needs to find the budget to offer.

The transformation from Taurus X to Flex involved more than the five-inch taffy-pull. A revised rear suspension relocates the coil springs inboard so the shocks can move outboard where they stand almost straight up to provide more efficient damping. (No, plywood won't fit flat on the floor between them, but it can slide in atop the armrests.) Beefing up the front and rear anti-roll bars relieved the shocks of some of their roll-control duty, allowing them to provide a more comfortable yet controlled ride. The rear of the chassis is also reinforced to accept a class-III hitch, boosting Flex's trailering muscle to 4500 pounds (enough to cover most boats and lightweight travel trailers). The stretched wheelbase and low center of gravity reportedly make this a stable, comfortable tow vehicle (trailer-sway mitigation isn't even programmed into the stability and roll-control system). The optional rearview camera makes lining up the hitch a no-brainer.

How's it drive? As I imagine a 2009 Country Squire would, had the traditional three-row family wagon been allowed to evolve and SUVs and minivans had never happened. Driving north out of New York City through the "what recession?" bedroom communities of Larchmont and Mamaroneck in Westchester County, the Flex demonstrated reasonable acceleration, and its handling was about as sprightly as one expects in a two-ton car. Ride is supple and controlled with minimal lean or fuss in turns, but the long wheelbase and mass are natural deterrents to any boy-racer inclinations. So is the transmission, the selector for which offers only "D" and "L." That's grossly inadequate and a manumatic shifter must be added ASAP, if for no other reason than to enable folks to maintain proper engine braking in mountain descents without the unanticipated downshifts "L" brings. A "hill" mode supposedly improves transmission responsiveness and reduces hunting when towing, climbing, or driving briskly, but it's no substitute for a proper +/- gear selector.

Of course, many intended buyers-some of whose mansions we drove right past-may not care about such things and will simply be delighted that at highway speeds the driver and third-row passengers can communicate without shouting themselves hoarse, and that six adults can cohabitate for a carpool-lane commute into town. And even if the sleek looks and suave appointments never achieve icon status, they should at least pass muster with the Westchester Joneses.

The New Concept of Ford GT90

The New Concept of Ford GT90
The GT90 is powered by a quad-turbo 720 bhp V12 engine which runs on four Garrett Systems T2 Turbochargers. It possesses a 5-speed manual gearbox and boasts a double wishbone suspension which is famous for its use on large sports car. Due to its stylish design and widely claimed high performance, it is often intergrated in automobile games such as Need For Speed II. However, it is believed that its performance had been widely over-hyped, and that the car's performances in actual road testing is much less impressive.

Ford planned to produce a limited amount of 100 Ford GT90s which never become a reality. However, it does create a significant effect on the design of future Ford cars, namely the Cougar and the Ka. CEO of Ford, Jacques Nasser, was reportedly so proud and impressed with the Ford GT90 that he have a model of it placed in his workplace even before he held his current post!

The New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4

The New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4
Lamborghini officially presented the so-called “lightweight” version of the popular sports car in Europe Gallardo, which has been named the Lamborghini as LP 560-4 - more power and less weight. As its name implies, the gussied-up Gallardo is modified with the sporting 560 hp and direct injected a strong 5.2 V10 liter engine (normal - 520 horses). Reducing off 20 kilos from the curb weight allows the LP560-4 to rocket to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph, all the while increasing fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions by some 18-percent.

eBay Find of the Day: Sole remaining 1995 Ford Thunderbird SVT prototype

It might not be the very first production Thunderbird ever made, but it is a pretty special T-Bird nonetheless, and it is up for auction, not at Barrett-Jackson, but rather on eBay Motors. Item number 190283235126 is a rare, 1 of 4, 1995 Ford Thunderbird SVT Concept prototype.

The description tells us that the other three were crushed by the Blue Oval, making this the sole survivor. What makes this SVT concept special is the engine. It features a turbocharged 4.8L V8 instead of the supercharged V6 that went into the production Thunderbird SC. Black with a gray leather interior, it appears to have aged well, with nearly 70,000 miles on the clock.

The car has been with one owner for the past ten years and was featured in Makes & Models Magazine in 2005. Unfortunately, it has a few non-stock "upgrades," including a racing fuel cell and a fiberglass hood with an airbrushed bird on the underside. Check out the gallery and click over if you feel its worth at least the $30,000 starting price.

Bee Four revives BRM brand, reveals in-wheel motor source

It's been announced that the electric race car we were telling you about from Bee Automobiles Ltd will now contend for the British Speed Hill Climb Championship in 2010 as the BRM Bee Four ERV.

This revives the BRM (British Racing Motors) brand that was born 60 years ago and has a rich and proud history. This also delays the original plan by a year, but should give them the necessary time to introduce a car that is fully tested and ready to win. There is hope that we'll see it before then as it is rumored that it may make some cameos at events this year.
