Formula for Disaster: Ferrari Hyabusa Trike on display in Tokyo

-There have been countless attempts to translate the Ferrari spirit from four wheels to two, ranging from sport bikes to choppers and everything in between. But this is the first we've seen with three wheels.

That's right, in case your eyes couldn't adjust from the endless see of crimson contours, what you're looking at is a Ferrari trike.Mirroring the "styling" of a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car, this one-off trike was spotted at the banzai Tokyo Auto Salon by the same people who brought us the no-less-bonkers Lamborghini ATV. Based around a 1.3-liter Suzuki Hayabusa engine and frame, this (thankfully) unique example was built by Trike Japan in order to showcase what they can do. We certainly hope the rest of their portfolio is a bit more tasteful than this showpiece, but we won't be holding our breath.

Massa says new Ferrari is totally different

MUGELLO - Felipe Massa gave Ferrari's new Formula One car its track debut on Monday and said it felt entirely different to the one he drove to victory six times last year.



Formula One has made major changes for the coming season with new aerodynamic regulations and slick tyres brought in to boost overtaking.

New rules on weight distribution have been drawn up and the KERS system, which gives cars a limited power boost by recovering energy from the brakes, introduced.

"It really is a car which is totally different to what we were used to up to last year," the Brazilian told a news conference as the constructors' world champions became the first team to unveil their car. "KERS and the aerodynamic changes mean the car is completely different to drive. This is just the beginning of a new cycle in Formula One and it will not be an easy experience."


Massa was runner-up last year to McLaren's 23-year-old Briton Lewis Hamilton, who won the driver's title by one point.

Massa had expected the first outing at Mugello to be tough but saw positive signs ahead of a proper test in Portimao, Portugal, later this month.

"This was the first day and we weren't looking to do 100 laps and good times given that they've changed the rules," he said. "Today there were small problems like on any first day but I'm happy with how it went.

"It will certainly be very different to drive this car...but you get more familiar and eventually it will be automatic. When changes are introduced it is always like that and at this stage we suffer, like last year with the lack of traction control.

"This is a situation where the driver is more important."

NO REGRETS

The 27-year-old had no regrets about last season and felt confident ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 29.

"The mood inside the team is pretty good. There have been great changes and maybe it will change some of the ways we work. I'm pretty happy with the work done by the team and I hope they'll continue to improve week after week," he said. "During this holiday period I just put myself in a very normal frame of mind and tried to draw a lesson from last year. I'm not looking backwards, I'm always looking to the future."

Some observers have said the aerodynamic changes have made the new cars look ugly but Massa thought Ferrari's F60 was not too bad.

"I was positively impressed. I prefer to have an ugly car with very high performance levels," he said.

Ferrari to roll out of Imola Racing's garages in Germany

Imola Racing is again a tuner from Germany. They specialize in Ferrari's and the latest creation is a widebodies of the beautiful 612.


We already saw the 612 Scaglietti by Hamann come by, the version of Imola is a bit similar. There is nothing known about motor adjustments, it has focused on the appearance of the Italian.


Think of a new front spoiler, a wide bodykit, new diffuser, rear spoiler and new alloy wheels. The interior might wish to adjust.

1995 Ferrari motorcycle to be auctioned

It all started when David Kay wrote to Enzo Ferrari’s son Piero, requesting to build a one-off motorcycle sporting the famous prancing horse badge in tribute to his late Ferrari doesn't make motorcycles. At least, not officially... but that fact hasn't stopped a number of custom cycle makers from taking matters into their own hands. Perhaps the most famous Maranello-inspired two-wheeler was made by Arlen Ness, but that one's not all that practical in conception.

We would imagine a Ferrari motorcycle to be a truly sporting machine, equally as comfortable on the race track as the street, or, more realistically, being shown off in one's garage. Ferrari seems to agree, as the only cycle ever created that bears an official Ferrari chassis number -- SF-01M -- has true sporting pretensions.

Bologna Motor Show: Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M Unveiled

Ferrari’s latest “best car ever” has just been introduced at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy. The Ferrari 430 16M Scuderia Spider comes with a power hardtop, which brings the weight of the F430 Scuderia Spider to 1340kg, down a full 80kg. A dual-clutch 7-speed transmission helps to improve driver control of the 510hp 4.3-liter V8.


0-100 km/h (62mph) time in only 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph) makes this a truly special convertible. Emphasizing this, Ferrari has announced that the plant in Maranello will only produce 499 units of the Ferrari 430 16M Scuderia Spider, just like the Scuderia.


You have two color choices for the car you can’t afford: black with grey trim, or a tricolour livery made possible through the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme. The convertible also comes with a commemorative plaque mounted to the rear grille, celebrating Ferrari’s 16th Constructor’s World Title.


Built as a mid-rear-engined high performance sports car, the Scuderia Spider 16M claimed a faster laptime at Fiorano than any other Ferrari convertible built to date.

Car News: Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano by Kahn Design

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is one of the few exotics rarely touched by aftermarket tuners but that hasn’t stopped Britain’s Project Kahn from releasing a new performance upgrade for it. Not wanting to alter the dramatic styling of the 599 significantly, developers have kept exterior mods to a minimum with only a mild styling kit and Kahn Design F1-X Carbon wheels making the cut – 20in up front and 21in in the rear.


Under the bonnet lies the standard 6.0L V12 engine with 612hp (456kW) and 448lb-ft (608Nm) of torque. Some minor modifications that are available for the car include a lowered sports suspension kit and high-flow sports exhaust.

Car News: Novitec Rosso 599 GTB Fiorano Bi-Kompressor Makes 808 hp

We have 808 ph, 823 Nm of cranking capacity and a top speed of more than 340 km/h. Track times are 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0-200km/h in 9.7 and 0-300km/h in 25.5 seconds. If you're giving out numbers on your 0-300km/h time, you have confidence in what you're putting out there on the street.


There are cars, sports cars, supercars and then comes...what? Well, then comes this 599 GTB Fiorano by tuner Novitec Rosso who make this Ferrari's numbers look a lot like the Italian carmaker's F1 car.


Novitec Rosso is a tuner with top engineering capabilities. This tuning work includes aerodynamic improvements and the largest street-legal brake parts with steel discs and six-piston brake calipers. The press release provides all the nitty details.


The Novitec Rosso's Bi-Kompressor V12 adds 188 hp and 215 Nm of torque from the 'factory' 599 GTB (factory must come in quotes since Ferrari builds its cars by hand, not by assembly line). The price for this newly tuned engine is 46,900 euros, which comes to about 250 euros for each additional horse.


Further pricing quotes were not released but you can expect them to be astronomical for this is as exotic as tuning gets. More Photos

As if Ferrari would ever miss the chance to show off its new California hardtop convertible in an event like the Ferrari Racing Days at the Nurburgring race track. On Sunday, 5th October, right after the final races and nine free practice laps for the F1 Clienti and FXX, seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher took the California for her first outing on the track after the V8-powered made its show debut in Paris.

Ferrari F430 has built a hardtop

A hardtop on a F430 is quite funny, it doesn't match with the car. A F430 is a car you drive on sunny days, just like any other Ferrari. And when it's bad weather you can always count on your softtop. So a hardtop isn't really necessary. But now it is spotted in Maranello, the home of Ferrari

Now the California has been released, the famous Italian Marque needs to start on the next project that they can deny for 2 years. Could it possibly be a removable hardtop version of the Ferrari F430? Judging by these photos attained by autogespot, it appears that this possibilty could well be a reality.

The Ferrari F430 has been on the market for since 2004 and we can fully assume Ferrari are working on a successor, so there is still the possibility this could also be a mule for its replacement, or as a complete mood killer suggestion, this could be just a simple tuning job by a Ferrari owner looking to add a bit of individuality to his car.

Another option is that Ferrari has built a hardtop because a lot of customers ask for it. But we don't think that people want a hardtop on their Spider. But hey.. we can make mistakes! If there is a need for a hardtop, why wouldn't Ferrari build one?

The last option is a whacky Italian who placed a custom build hardtop on his F. But that isn't really possible because there is a factory license plate on the car.

The second option is the best option we think. What is happening behind the factory walls? Do we get more information in a few weeks? Or is it really a mule? We have to wait.

Ferrari California

The Hugely anticipated Ferrari California has been revealed with three official images and first details. The new GT joins Ferrari's 8-cylinder family and slots in just below the 612 Scaglietti with its new V8 which for the first time in their history is placed in the mid-front position of the car. Despite earlier predictions of a coupe model, the California will be exclusively available as a convertible featuring a folding hard top.

Power comes courtesy of a new 4.3-Liter V8 Engine with direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft, output stands at 460 horsepower at 7500 rpm which launches it from 0-100km/h in under 4 seconds. The new model is the first model in the range to benefit from a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission which helps enhance the performance figures and driving pleasure whilst simultaneously reducing emissions(c.310 g/km CO2). But the performance enhancements don't stop there, the California also gets a new multilink rear suspension system, the F1-Trac traction system originally debuted in the 599 GTB Fiorano and carbon-ceramic material brake discs.

The interior benefits from newly developed accessories and equipment such as the seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainment system. The exterior shows a classic prancing horse design aerodynamically enhanced to be highly ergonomic and enjoyable car to drive regardless of whether the top is up or down.

The California will be publicly unveiled in September at the Paris Motor Show, but before then we are promised further details and images will be released

Ferrari are hardly a brand you would associate with producing environmental energy saving automobiles, but it seems by this concept we could see a new direction for the Italian supercar manufacturer. The Ferrari 430 Spider Bio Fuel Concept made what we would call a quiet debut at the Detroit Motor Show with no special press conference called which leads us to think it isn't something they are heading into too seriously.

According to Automotive News preliminary data points in the positive direction with power output increased by 10hp to 500 hp with torque up 4% and fuel consumption down by 5%. But there is no need to get your cheque books out just yet, the production is said to be "not close",whch is backed up by the fact E85 fuel is only widely in areas where Ferrari sales are negligible such as U.S. Midwest states, Brazil and Sweden. However a ferrari official has said that if E85 became widely available in California (where 10% of Ferrari's worldwide sales are) then this Bio Fuel model would become a viable option.

I am pleased to say we are on schedule and we will be announcing the date of the official unveiling of the car soon.”

The development of the new car follows an announcement last year that Ferrari had signed a six-year agreement to supply and manufacturer all A1GP engines. We also saw a glimpse of the technology to be used in the new engine with the Ferrari 430 Spider Bio Fuel Concept with the Italians stating the E10 biofuels will be employed in the V8 engine supplied to the A1GP.

Baby Ferrari Finally Confirmed as Grand Tourer

There is no more denying it!! Despite numerous denials Ferrari has finally confirmed what we had all expected, they are in fact working on a brand new model and the name – Ferrari Grand Tourer.

The Italians have created a special site for the new model at www.ferrarigtcountdown.com and before the official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in September, we can look forward to a number of teasers as the new model is revealed bit by bit. Just to get those juices flowing, Ferrari have began with a few soundbites and trust us, they are well worth heading over there for a few seconds of bliss. Despite earlier speculation stating the Grand Tourer will be powered by a V6, the engine certainly sounds to have the bite of a V8.

The new model will slot in at the bottom of the Ferrari portfolio and is expected to be priced in the region of €110,000 with around 4000 units being produced each year.

Baby Ferrari caught again

Everyone knows that Ferrari is hatching a baby the size of some popular German roadsters. What we don’t know yet, is whether Dino, F149 or California GT will be on the name badge. The pictures shown are the newest on the block, revealing the car for the first time without its notorious hunchback that’s been a trademark ever since we first spied this Ferrari testing.

Ferrari is not isolated from the rest of the world, and as such they are working on ways to impress the green cops. One of these is of course the turbo which is rumoured to be on its way back to Formula One where Ferrari tests a lot of their future on-road technology. Engine upfront, two doors, driven by the rear wheels. We sincerely hope that underneath what is probably one of the ugliest ducklin camouflage jobs out there, is a princely swan.
